You are dreading this a small bit. Fair enough, nearly everyone is, and here is the good news, and there is good news: none of it is beyond you. Some of it you just have not done yet. This is Gary Meggs Driving School, a Cork school telling you plainly how the whole thing works, so you can stop worrying about the parts that never mattered.
We will not cod you. Learning to drive is a fair few lessons, a bit of money and a stretch of nerves, and there is no trick that skips it. What there is, is doing it in the right order with someone honest in the passenger seat. So let us sort out the order first.
The licence, in the order it actually goes
People tie themselves in knots over the sequence, and it is genuinely simple. Sit the theory test first. Use the pass to get your learner permit. Do your twelve mandatory EDT lessons, the ones the RSA brought in so nobody learns the lot from a well-meaning uncle. Wait the six months the permit asks of you. Then, and only then, the driving test. Miss a step and all you do is wait longer, so take them in turn.
Plenty of people do not pass first time, and that is the pass rate talking, not you. Book the next go without beating yourself up about it. And when you go looking for a school, learn how to weigh one up before you part with a cent, because they are not all the same.
The test is not hunting for a flawless driver. There is no such thing and the tester knows it. It is checking that you will not do the thing that gets an ordinary driver hurt. A kinder bar than you fear, and a firmer one than you would like. That is the honest shape of it.

Then the money side: buying your first car without getting fleeced, insurance that will not rob you blind, and the plain truth that proper lessons cost less than the long way round to a licence.
